my 99 rav4 will not run, first question does the tvss11b system immobilise the engine? or does it just control central locking and the alarm. toyota main dealer replaced the immobiliser ecu and transponder key for £250 but that didn't cure it at which point i decided to tow it home before they trew more of my hard eaned cash at it willy nilly. the engine turns over fine but does not fire if i remove the immobiliser ecu it starts and runs for a few seconds then dies, cutting feed to the injectors. any thoughts/answers please kim (ravingmad).

hello and welcome to the forum if its yer first time.....

the early alarms on the RAV (ie those of 1994-5 vintage had problems with the alarm system.

I'm trying to think back on whether your TVSS system is one of the rogues.... altho the car age would suggest not.

The alarms immobilise the engine.. from memory, there is a central locking system and a remote locking feature and an immobiliser. You can disarm the immobiliser by shorting/bypassing the wire break which interrupts the ignition.Unless you have diesel....

assuming yer car is petrol, I'd strip out the alarm and immobiliser completely. If you are unsure, ask an auto-electrician to do it.... but frankly I'd be a bit pisse off with the dealer and ask for my money back.
