Noisy Wheels And Brakes

Hi again

Oops sorry that should be brakes not breaks but don't know how to edit the subject!

I've had my Rav4 for just 8 days now and have only driven about 60miles in that time as I still have the use of a company car. There are a couple of noises that concern me, the brakes make a bit of a rubbing sandpapery sound when applied...dealer said would dissappear and was as a result of vehicle standing and not being driven for a while. The other noise which does not seem brake related but comes from the wheels and is a whirring that I imagine could be bearing related. I'm just not sure what to expect as normal noises from the vehicle so whats the consensus? Just a reminder its the 2003 1.8 FWD VVTI-NV

Thanks for reading!

Hi, Pamela.

My RAV does not go far now and I experience the same sounds from my brakes if I have`nt used it for a couple of days which I think is normal.

There are more knowledgeable members than me who may dispute this, who, I am sure will give a more informed answer shortly.

One thing I am sure of though, is you have a motor that will serve you well.

My brakes make a rubbing noise when the vehicle hasn't been used for a while.

However, a few sharp goes on the pedal and they disappear.

if you try this and the rubbing perists it may mean the pads are due for renewal.

Title edited!

The pads can sound quite abrasive depending on the material but just check the pads aren't worn out and then you can ignore it.

Its obviously difficult to comment on the transmission/bearing noises but the RAV is a big vehicle and the tyres can howl quite a lot. Probably normal but just ask a local garage to pop around the block in it.

It'll take a bit of getting used to but you have bought a great vehicle

Thanks for the reassurance folks! The vehicle came with a 76 point check(although I don't have a copy of that) and last MOT was only in March so I think its probably sound but I wanted to act sooner rather than later is I needed to!
