Hi,

New to forums (and my MR2) but have read some articles form the owners club. I have a 1990 T-Bar and want to make some basic upgrades. I wish I had more power but glad I don't have a turbo- Mine is a giant go kart, just the way I like it.

1) I have the 14" trolley wheels. Looking to get 16" to retain road performance- (Dotz Mugello, Rota White or Wofrace black with red rim). What is the best tyre wall size, 40 or 45 (for 16" wheels)? I'm hoping I can get 195/40/16 front and 205/40/16 rear, but dont want to drop to 40 tyre wall if this is detrimental to handling (esp in wet). (I like to have fun but not spin into oblivion).

2) Apexi induction kit. Will buy one and most likely gte someone else to fit it- unless... does it bolt straight on with no effort to do much else?

3) Japspeed de cat exhaust- videos on youtube make me want one asap. Has anyone been pulled up on the noise levels. I used to have a renegade exhaust on my old bike and even tho you could hear it from the after life, no one gave me grief

4) If getting the japspeed exhaust is i worth getting the down pipe?

5) Clutch is getting a wee bit... pants... but still grips reasonable. Is the Helix organic worth anything over the OE clutch?

6) Finally (apologies for many Q's)- I can't find any where in South East London that has a standard grille to protect the new rad I had fitted. Does anyone know where I can get something? If not will buy some fancy crap mesh from B&Q, cut it to size and cable tie it (better than nothing.

Any help on the above, moocho gracias!

Main thing with wheels is to make sure you keep front/rear stagger, normally about 1", so say 16x7 front 16x8 rear with tyre sizes of 205/45/16 front and possibly 225 or 235/45/16 rear, don't quote me on that but that's where u want to be heading, also get the right offset i think it's about +35 rear and +38 front, again i can't remember which way round it is but someone on here will know for sure.

2) Apexi induction kit. Will buy one and most likely gte someone else to fit it- unless... does it bolt straight on with no effort to do much else?

A'pexi all the way, best you can get in my opinion, had them on all 3 of my turbos, very easy to fit just about bolts straight on.

3) Japspeed de cat exhaust- videos on youtube make me want one asap. Has anyone been pulled up on the noise levels. I used to have a renegade exhaust on my old bike and even tho you could hear it from the after life, no one gave me grief

All depends on you local plod, get it done, although i have heard stories of the n/a losing low down torque when decatted, but you gain in top end, so it's kind of 50/50 had a japspeed on one of my turbos it was very loud but i loved it and never had any problems with it,

4) If getting the japspeed exhaust is i worth getting the down pipe?

Yes!

5) Clutch is getting a wee bit... pants... but still grips reasonable. Is the Helix organic worth anything over the OE clutch?

If you've not got silly power, by that i mean lots over stock then don't waste your money just buy stock clutch.

6) Finally (apologies for many Q's)- I can't find any where in South East London that has a standard grille to protect the new rad I had fitted. Does anyone know where I can get something? If not will buy some fancy crap mesh from B&Q, cut it to size and cable tie it (better than nothing.

I got mine from a local motor factors diamond cut black mesh, as far as i know there is no stock item, so whatever you buy you have to cut to size but it's an easy job, i went for black cos it won't tarnish and it's not painted so will not chip and look messy, and it isn't in your face, it's a nice sublte mod.

Hope some of that helps you out,if you need any more advice/help just ask.

Mo,

Thanks dude. Gives me a clearer steer. Mine is def not over powered which is good as the braking power is about right for the accelaration. I've been looking at a few web sites for parts. Have you used any of these?

- www.camskill.co.uk (seems to have many OE parts)

- www.performancecentre.co.uk (Spax PSX adjustable suspension kit)

- www.jap-spec-performance.co.uk (Blue flame CAT back exhaust and Apex spring kit)

- www.japspeed.co.uk (JP exhaust)

- www.fensport.co.uk (MR2-2, ST182, ST202 CLUTCH KIT)

- www.nengun.com (Apex induction kit)
