Dreaded Dmf!

:crybaby: Dealer has just confirmed that the DMF is on it's way out. :crybaby:

It started with the RAV feeling as if she was running a little rough at idle, then when cold the clutch 'juddered' a bit when pulling off. Then came the 'resonant rattle' - a bit like a loose heat shield, just a bit heavier. Next, I guess, comes the eye watering lightening of my wallet/ bank account :(

I appreciate that things break, and some broken things cost! What I don't get is why a late 2005 2.0D4D RAV with just over 47K on the clock should be having a failure of such a major component, which was meant to have been sorted. And it's not as if I'm the only post-2002 model owner that has had such a failure at a lowish average mileage.

I didn't extend the warranty this year as I haven't had any problems with the RAV so far, the same as my previous D4D Avensis, but now I wish I had!

The dealer has been very helpful, as usual. The warranty section at Toyota didn't want to know so they have taken it up with customer services on my behalf. Here's hoping...

Has anybody had success with getting Toyota UK to come across with at least some contribution for a DMF failure in an post-2002 model over 3 years old?

Yes different I'm afraid but warranties do get honoured from time to time so keep your fingers crossed.

Sounds like the same symptoms as mine

(55) reg… 53k miles

So it looks like Toyota didn’t fix the DMF problem at all

and most of you (diesel manual) can look forward to being fleeced by Mr T sometime in the near future :censor:

Is it even worth asking Mr T if he would fix it under warranty?

not heard of any success stories… or am I wrong?

You are Nige. They pop up every now and again and fix it sometimes completely free but I haven't worked out a pattern yet.

My Rav was 5yrs+ 1wk old, 2002 model After much argument toyota paid for the parts but not the labour, It had only done 24000mls though, I think if you can prove your loyalty to Mr T + provide proof of service history you MAY have a chance, Toyota do recognise this as a "known fault" + did extend the DMF warranty to 5yrs + 60000mls but I don't know if this was for specific models, Anchs may know better..(he usually does) Stew

Just an update...

My dealer has just informed me that as a 'Good Will gesture, considering the circumstances' that Toyota UK will cover the cost of the parts.

However, I'm left to cover the labour costs...

It's better than nothing, and to be honest better than I was expecting. They could legitimately have advised me to take the 's*x and travel' :censor: option but seem to been swayed by my history of Toyota ownership and full main dealer service histories.

Top marks to my local dealer (Jim's Garage) :toast: for taking the time and effort to work it through with Customer Services... and for promising to have it fixed before I head off on holiday next week!
