1Nd-Tv With 5 Speed

I am looking at swapping a 1ND-TV into a Toyota Tercel from the mid 90s as a high mpg project car. This engine was never available in the US, but I was able to find an importer who can get me one. It comes with a 5 speed manual trans and I was wondering if anyone knows the gear ratios?

I also see the newer 1NDs come with a 6 speed trans. Is there anything else different between these two engines? I heard from someone that the older 1NDs had 75hp vs the newer ones having 90?

I would say there are some "minor" differences between them. For example, my brother blew a gearbox on a 2.2tdi nissan almera. Turned out there were something like 3 different gearboxes that year so he had to match his chassis no. exactly!

If you are feeling adventurous then look here:http://www.atzonline.com/index.php%3Bdo=show/site=a4e/sid=18417340614c39f65453732163395946/alloc=3/id=2323

And here:http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/g_E_200402_TOYOTA_YARIS_NLP10R-CGMRXW.html

I'll get back to you on the rpm at 60 mph.

Sorry i can't be of more help to you Daox.

Does anyone have any idea what is different on these two engines (the 75 vs 90 hp 1ND-TVs)?

Jaysus! Havent the foggiest. Probably something as simple as a better intake port and higher injector pressure, with better injectors to match. Oh, and maybe some ECU work....hmmmmm!

I found this on an aviation forum:http://www.aviationkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/homebuilt/3830/Toyota-aluminum-Diesel-1-4-D-4D-89-bhp

Alright, one more question then. Do you know the estimated mileage for the earlier yaris models vs the new yaris? Basically I want to know which engine gets better fuel economy and if its worth it to try and find a 90hp version (which will likely cost more).

According to http://www.simi.ie/consumer_information/co2_emissions_guide_2008.aspx the 2008 figures for the d4d yaris are 4.5L/100k combined. CO2 is 119g/km

The 2009 figures are 4.1L/100k combined with 109g/km CO2

I used to have the older figures but can't find them anymore. In any case, it appears there is a direct connection between CO2 and L/100k. The formula for diesels is :CO2=L/100k x 26.30.

Thats the best i can come up with at this time Daox.

1NDTV was originally designed for Toyota Yaris. This was a 75 HP diesel engine. It was modified to 90 HP.

This modified 90HP engine should be good for tercel. 75HP will be too small.

Chose manual 5 gear box. It`s the best one. There is also an automatic 6 gear but this one is not so reliable as manual one.

You can expect 4.8 -5.5 / 100km (depending on the weight of your car and your driving style).

I'd certainly hope for better than that. Steady back road driving, at the speed limit of 80kph, gives me 3.4L/100k per tank.

Although if i were to go on motorways a lot then i would use a lot more alright.

Thanks for the info marcopol.

I think the 75 hp version will be fine. The Tercel is both smaller and lighter than the Yaris. The late 80s early 90s Tercel engines only had 80 some hp, so its not too far from that.

I also hope to be waaay better than 4.8 /100km. As is is right now I normally average better than 4.0 /100km in my 1997 Paseo in summer. Of course, I drive specifically to get that good of mileage and have modified the car as well. With the 1ND I hope to consistently beat 3.4 /100km in summer. I have seen others with similar engined cars get close to this, so I think its doable.

If you live in a flat area then you will blow 3L/100k out of the water. Mine does 2 to 2.5L/100k on the flat (at about 80 to 90kph) after it gets up to temperature. But any hill, even a slight rise in the road and you will suffer.

Not much and it obvously wont be the end of the world but ya know yerself!!
