An alternative to what? You have to tell us the reasons or how can we comment?

There is ALWAYS an alternative  But who has said it needs a new pump + why? a second opinion from a diesel specialist might be worthwhile.. Stew

Hi Stew

Thanks for the reply, the car was loosing power on acceleration so mentioned it during the MOT and so he referred me to a diesel specialist, apparently there are two valves on the pump and if those can be sorted it will ONLY cost £100 per valve plus fitting, will find out Tuesday.I wouldnt mind if it had high mileage but its only done 38.000 miles!!!!(wish Id taken out a warranty DOH !!)

AS you may have seen in that article, the SCVs are just less than £200 and you can fit them yourself by following the instructions.

  • 4 weeks later...

hello,i have had a problem with my rav,for the past 3 or 4 months.going over 3,ooo revs and then slowing down resulted in a total loss of throttle, which i now know as limp mode.the fault code read "blocked fuel filter".this was replaced along with the sensor, but made no difference.the only way to avoid it going into limp mode was to keep the revs below 3,ooo.several weeks of no overtaking later ,i inadvertantly broke the 3,ooo limit and again went into limp mode and in the fast lane of the motorway ,this is not recommended.i bought a fault code reader and discovered a new fault registered," fuel pump line a open".searching forums on the net i learned about the rubber pressure relief valves on the fuel pump ,and the costs involved.my friendly mechanic suggested that i try a fuel additive,as a cheap alternative.i have done several trips on the motorway since, and despite exceeding the 3,ooo rev limit i have not had any more problems.

Welcome to the club.

Can you add some detail to your profile so we can see what model you have and also can you give more detail about the additive you used.

Cheers.
