don't worry about timing holes and marks. Just mark where the belt meets the pulley with a dab of tippex ( get the belt AND the pulley with the mark ) - Camshaft and Crankshaft are the only 2 points you need to do with your engine, the timing is only dependant on those two so the oil pump can line up any old how.

Then take off the old belt, match it up tooth for tooth directly on top of the new one and transfer the tippex marks to the new belt. Then just fit the new belt - lining up the new tippex marks with the ones on the pulleys.

If you haven't got a timing belt on at the moment though, you'll have to turn the engine to TDC ( look at the bottom pulley, there is a gauge on the plastic cover right next to it ). Match the notch on the pulley outer rims to the 0 position. On the camshaft pulley there will be a marking saying 4E with a tiny hole next to it. This hole lines up with a small punch mark behind the pulley ( from memory it's at about 1 o clock position - well, it is on the 5Es ). If you're unsure that you have TDC, take the rocker cover off and look at the cam position. The intake and exhaust valves should be fully shut on the cylinder nearest the timing belt.

There's a manual for the 5E engine you can download >>HERE<<. Not exactly the engine you're using, but it's very close and will give you some good pointers if you need them
