A mate at work has just bought himself a Corsa 1.4SRi with a K&N induction kit - and by god can it shift!!! well put it this way..... he certainly gave me a run for my money!!!

Anyone know how they compare with the mighty Yaris T-Sports??

I wouldnt say the 1.4 sri is much competition for the T-Sport, think its got a 0-60 time of 10.5 so the yaris is 1.5 secs quicker which in real terms is quite a difference ...K&N cant give that much more power ;)

wel i beat 1.2 corsa's in my 1.0l yaris and nearly keep up with 1.4 corsa's so you shud be wipein the floor with a 1.4 sri if uve got a t-sport

my mates got a 1.4 sri, its not too far behind the tsport. The 10.5 time vauxhall state is a bit underrated, its closer to 9 /9.5.

My tsport beats it easily on the flat, uphill it still beats it but its a lot closer.

Had a good ding-dong with a new shape 1.2 Corsa t'other night. kept smoking him into, around and out of roundabouts, then letting him overtake on the dual carriageway. Loads of fun! Went on for 3-4 miles! Both of us giggling!

Was working for Vaixhall in the Hq last year in Luton, the new engines are fun to drive.

The astra turbo and the vxturbo are both fun :)

Surinder

I was in the purchasing department, so not exactly sure of the SOP of the Gsi Corsa. However, i was responsible for the piston assembly and ring pack for the new Tigra. I sourced the 1.6Turbo stuff which will appear in the tigra in '06. I think the gsi will have the same engine, so i assume that will be out in mid 05 or early 06

I'm sure the SRi guys will insist that their cars can keep up/beat the YTS just as the yaris guys here have insisted the oppposite :)

As much as I dislike vauxhalls (excluding the vx turbo) those SRi's can shift, and I certainly wouldn't fancy taking one on in a yaris with anything less than the 1.5 vvti.

vmail, couldn't have been much of an a4 in that case

Aye, make no mistakes. All Yarii are SLOW! <_<

At least, they are after your mate takes you to a rainy lunch in his modded Impreza Type-R with the VCD sent all the way back (66% rear)... The door pillar was in the way of my view down the dual carriageway!!!

The 1.4sri,s have excellent acceleration, they are quick up to about 85, then they are just a normal 1.4. engine which will go fast enough if pushed, to be fair they are actually quite a good looking corsa. but there is still better for the money!

the saxo VTR is like that too dave, I know they're a bit tinny but my mate had one that didn't half shift

It got to 90 so fast, was a standard VTR.. I'm sure they misbadged it in the factory, it should have been a 'VTS'

Nuts to you all, my 1.2 Clio does 0-60 eventually except uphill, where i have to get out and push! I had a 1.2 Corsa as a courtesy car and it made the Clio feel like a Sinclair C5. I think it's summat to do with the ignition spark over on modern Vauxhalls are 10.5kW instead of the usual 7.5. I think thats summat to do with it, not 100% sure tho'

 Surinder are you still looking into a Type-R ?? long time no see on here

ps think i have the right person ;)

maybe next year, once my wife has had few years driving experience behind her.

At the mo insurance is too high for her as she has only been driving for about 7 months and has already had a crash.

Vauxhalls are hard to quantify as some were/are 8V and others 16V which is why some are slow and others not. The 8V engines were great in there original form as they used to just overfuel when you wanted to go quick, but since emissions controls like cats and fuel injection were added they have slowed down to near useless which is why the MKI Corsa and some of the current Astra's are hopeless, but the 16V units are very good.

Yaris' are not slow, it's just you have to drive them properley to get the best from them as they don't have a lot of torque but have quite a lot of BHP for their size (particularly the 1.0) which is why you don't get much acceleration low down the rev range.

My mate has an SRi 1.4 16v.

I wouldn't have said it was that quick. He can get away from my *cough* 1.4 8v fiesta *cough*, but when sat in it I can't say it feels that much faster. Official 0-60 is roughly 10.5secs without mods. Probably 9 with few mods and better driving.

Dunno about the yaris..... yet, but isnt it supposed to ave a very quick 40-80 time or sommin?

Well, i understand that the Yaris T-Sport is supposed to be one of the quickest cars in its class between 40-60mph..........

Not too sure how true that is.........
