Ac Fan Speed

Hi has anyone noticed that when you put the Prius into power mode the AC fan speeds up what is the point of that.

AC is only really effective in normal or power mode. Eco mode reduces the power and efficiency of the Aircon, so when you hit either normal or power modes, the fan will speed up - you'll also notice the temperature of the air being circulated becomes cooler.

Is it just me or is the a/c on the Prius a bit crap? It blows cold air but not super ice cold like on my gf's Civic.

The a/c runs at a reduced rate in Eco mode (stays at 2 bars) to reduce fuel consumption. You will also find the engine cuts out more often in warm up mode too. All this makes for slightly better mpg's.

Yeh got to admit GC, the a/c on your gf's Civic is terrific. Top notch sound system too.

Maybe its because the aircon is electrical with a variable speed compressor? With normal car aircon, I guess the compresor runs at a fixed speed and is not as controllable as the Prius. Certainly works that way on the Yaris. I don't have a problem with Prius air con. When it needs to, it can blast out but most of the time, I can't tell if the air con is on or not. Makes for better mpg.

Mine's icy cold after it's blown all the hot air out of the system (and cabin) on a hot day.

From which I assume your g/f has an old model Civic. The climate control on my 06 EX 2.2 diesel was dual zone, each zone producing truly random temperatures. I think this was one of the car's many interesting features. Have a hunt on www.civinfo.com for a flavour of the complaints. (if you can find them amongst the nearly 2000 threads/35,000 posts in the Bugs, faults and irritations section.)

The Prius aircon may be single zone, but it does work well.

Nah it's a 2008 single zone climate. Works like a good un. She's getting rid of the car though and hoping to get an Aygo instead. The Honda is certainly not like Hondas of old and has continually had 12v Battery problems. On our 2nd Battery at 26k miles and just over 2 years old and this one is now on its way. The dealers are next to completely useless, unless of course, you like someone to stand looking gormless with their mouth half open. My next door neighbours cat would have been more help and use!

One of the reasons we bought the Honda was it was made in the UK, well Swindon, and the car looked great. It turned out to be anything but!
