Hi guys,

I know this is hard to pinpoint and there seems to be allot of topics about rattles but I cant find one regarding a rattle at idle on the 2.2!

I have a Toyota 2.2 T180, not sure what T3 or 4, not sure where i'd find that info or what it means!

It idles just below 1K about 800 - 900 and has a slight rattle coming from the front left of the engine, (RHS if you stand looking at the bonnet) I'm not sure what it is or where its coming from OR if its normal. Does anyone have the same slight tinny rattle?

Many thanks for your help.

Mike

Slowly increase the revs from idle using your gas pedal....does the rattle increase with the increase in revs...?

Hopefully not, as would possibly point to one or more injectors on way out....expensive wee beasties.

Big Kev.

In the Auris I had the same problem, it turned out to be a loose (L Shaped) lead pipe to the air intake. This is held by a cheap plastic clip and if this is gone then the pipe will resonate to the engine vibration. It lives on the right hand side (looking at the bonnet) on the Auris, not too sure if there is an equivalent on the Avensis. Worth a look.

Thanks guys, i'll have a look today, if i'm honest I don't notice the rattle except while at idle BUT its so slight I only hear it outside, i'll have to ask someone to help.

Thanks again.

Ensure the airbox is securely fixed with the metal clips and that the box isn't hitting anything else.
