Revision 3 3Sge Speaker Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Some of you may remember me (hopefully!).

I got a little issue, tried asking on the MR2Owners club but got no where so came back here.

Basicly, I have spent quite a lot of money on my car but have left the Speakers the same. I have an Alpine head unit which is pretty good but the standard Speakers are quite shocking. The subwoofers you cant hear and the rest sound as a tinny as my girlfriends pc Speakers from tescos even with the treble right down and the bass up.

Im looking at replacing them all but don't wanna spend a huge amount. A guy that sortes my clifford alarm out can do a full system with a passive sub in centrw console plus sound proofing for £600 but i don't have the spare cash at moment as trying to pay for my wedding.

What I want is the next best thing thats affordable and worth it. So just takin out the old 1s and replacing for new 1s without doing to much modification would be great.

1 thing i would like a is a decent sub and amp, so any ideas or things that people have already done would be helpful. The more suggestions the better!

Let me hear your ideas.

Regards,

Mike

Don't quote me but i think stock fronts are 5" but you can fit up to 6.5" with not too many problems, just need a baffle ring to clear the windows (if they have deep baskets) and a trim of the door cards.

junk the rear Speakers they are just a waste of time, in the past i've had 2 x 10" subs one behind each seat which was loud!!!,

There are loads of options, my advice is just to set your spend limit and get the best you can for the money.

Yeah, done some research and what you say seems the best option.

I have a set of Alpine 6.5 components coming, gonna disconnect the rear Speakers (the two subwoofers at bottom dont seem to work anyway!). Am ordering an alpine 1.900 amp and 2x 12" s type 900 rms (1500w) subs to sit behind the seats. Have worked out the dimensions for the boxs so when i confirm they fit when done I will share with anyone that wants. Just hoping the 12's wont blow out my kidneys, only seen 1 other MR2 with 12's but havent heard it.

12's are a bit too big for the mr2, you have to take into consideration the amount or lack of air in the cabin, it's gonna be a bit too much.

Also when designing a box remember seat position, it may all look like it will fit ok but if you're a tall chap you may find seating position restrictive.

I've not done audio in my current turbo but when i do i think it's only going to be 1 10" this time, 2 was more than enough, i think a few members on here heard the setup in my black turbo..... it was loud and never reached full volume.

There are a few box designs kicking about the internet i think i got mine from IMOC, a few years ago.

Good luck tho :)
