Help Please Smoke Comes From Alternator Area When Starting

the alternator area will just smoke up hen the ar s trying to strt but does not start!... it started around 2 weeks ago and i tried to start it and the alternator belt snapped so i replaced this... but it still is happening i dont know whether the replace the alternator or not as they are around £130

Weird, Does the Car try to turn over? Because you can start the car without an alternator, wont last long, but will start... as long as you got a good Battery, its not the alternator... unless the alternator is seized... Try taking off the belt or loosening it alot and starting the car... but dont leave it running long just see if it starts..... lemme know how that goes...

Weird, Does the Car try to turn over? Because you can start the car without an alternator, wont last long, but will start... as long as you got a good Battery, its not the alternator... unless the alternator is seized... Try taking off the belt or loosening it alot and starting the car... but dont leave it running long just see if it starts..... lemme know how that goes...

yes it tries to turn over... im in manchester ATM and im bak on thusdai so belt should come off thurs/friday... thanks for your advice mste :D

ive hd the belt off nd it starts so ii had a mate look at it and he is saying alternator is seized up :(

Sounds most likely it's seized, just a build up of grime and dust/water getting in their which wrecks it.

Go for a new replacement so that you don't have to waste more time in the future with it.

Yeap, that sucks. Changin the alternator is very tricky(so ive heard)... Thought I had to, So I bought one and looked into it... Very tricky. Theres sites out there thatll tell you how to do it, its just tricky to get in and out between the crossmember... but can be done. Good luck.

Do you happen to have the 4A-GE madmanmac?

ive got the EFI one not sure what engine code it is...
