Strange Sound From The Back

Recently I have noticed some strange 'd-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d' sound coming from the back of the car.

The sound is very similar to the sound appear when the screw of the number plate has loosen and the metal plate keeps hitting the bumper due to vibration of the car... but certainly this is not the cause of my case.

The sound never pop when the car is sitting ideal and during the time the car travel above 35mph. The sound usually appears when I am not stepping on the acceleration padel and let the car slide between 10-35mph.

I've tried sitting at the back and instruct my gf to drive... however even know the sound is somewhere close to me I couldn't locate the source of the sound, so most likely it not generated by any interior parts.

I have tried to move all the tyre repair kits, the tray and the little plastic box on top of it but the sound presisted.

Later I have tried to lift the backdoor up and leave it open while driving, surprisingly the sound has disappeared but I am still not able to locate the source of the sound... the sound pops again after I closed the backdoor :(

Anyone got the same problem and got a solution to this?

Could this be the air circulation valve problem? I read about it in a post somewhere on the forum, but cant remember what page.

If it is that it should go away when you switch from internal air circulation to external (or maybe it was the other way around).

Gonna try some switching when I finish work later, if thats the case... does that mean I have to stick with either internal or external air circulation to prevent the sound in the future?

Thats a work around but not a fix :(

Could it be the exhaust knocking on the bodywork ?

That is possible, since the noice seems come from the right hand side of the back and thats where the exhaust located.

However I still couldn't understand how come the noise disappeared if the backdoor was lifted up and left open while driving. :help:

I have also tried to check every exterior parts of the backdoor and I have tried to swing the backdoor up and down but it seems pretty solid and I couldnt hear any abnormal sound from it.

I've noticed this myself over the last couple of days, it sounds like a piece of paper flying loose around the back of the car. I've also noticed that I only really seem to hear it when the seats are down. I've also noticed that one of the rivets holding on a piece of the heat shield under the car is loose, maybe a combination of factors?! I'm gonna get Mr T to take a look at it when I have my car serviced in a few weeks. Will let you know if I get a resolution...

The plastic-cover (covering the tank) has no fix at one corner.

And the two air-outlets (position between rear-numberplate and the grill below the rear-door inside) flattering sometimes , depends on the air flow (pressure) from the interior.

Oh hey, guess what? I have found that out like yesterday but not sure if thats the cause of the sound.

Have any idea how to fix it? I think Mr.T should have a look at this and do something about it.

I too have heard the same 'flapping' noise as DCS_81, it doesn't happen on every journey, perhaps once/twice a week. I have also found that opening and closing the boot seems to silence the noise. This is confusing if the noise is coming from the fuel tank cover.

I'd be interrested to hear what Mr T has to say when you have your car serviced DCS_81. Please keep me posted.

Seat belts connector rattling against bodywork? Clip it in> RABB

Nope for sure, it will be very obvious to locate the source of the sound if it was coming from the seat belt connector.

I think LA-LA is correct for this one. Lets see if DCS_81 get any reply from Mr.T in regards to this.

My current work around is to turn the music loud enough so I couldn't hear the noise from the back :(
