Dog 'shoots' Man In New Zealand

40-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the buttocks by his own dog.

The victim was getting into the rear seat of a four-wheel drive vehicle when the animal jumped in beside him.

The dog then stood on the trigger of a .22 bolt-action rifle, which discharged a bullet that passed through the seat and lodged in the man's left buttock.

A rescue helicopter was quickly summoned to airlift the man to Whangarei Hospital.

Surgeons later removed the bullet.

Reports said that the man was with a group of four people who had slaughtered a pig at Te Kopuru, 90 miles north-west of Auckland on New Zealand's North Island.

The group later told police that they thought the gun had been empty.

The victim has not been named, neither has the breed of dog but his name is "Lucky".

Obviously a bit Ruff justice has been done...
