Possible Silly Question

Had a wee search of the forum but couldn't find an appropriate topic.

Just recently it feels like my steering is pretty loose - thats really the only way I can think to describe it. When I'm turning, for example going round a roundabout, it almost feels like the car is going to give way and kick out. In fact last night when I was coming off at an exit it did just give way (again I'm not very good at describing things) and kind of kicked out and the back jerked? I don't know, it all happened really quick and I felt pretty shaken up about it. That's happened once before but it was around the time of the snow and ice and I assumed it just slipped a bit. Come to think of it, I also had my steering go "mental", like I lost control once going round a roundabout, but again I put it down to the weather. As it never happened again I didn't question it, but now I definitely feel something is wrong.

Basically I just want some ideas about what the problem could be before I take it to a garage so I'm not completley clueless.

Ps I also feel like my brakes need done, could this be related?

Many Thanks in advance!

I would be taking a look at the tyre condition to see if they are worn, most customers who report poor handling have bald tyres! The weather, rain etc will make the problem even worse. Other worn componants such as shock absorbers would also make the car handle badly but start with the most obvious first and get professional advice

Many thanks for that Kingo, make sense really! It was raining all day yesterday so the grip would have been even worse. Also think I'll check the tyre pressure in case thats a factor too.

Will nip down to my National Tyres.

Cheers again

Yes good idea to start with the basics and not worry too much about suspension and stuff until you have eliminated the obvious. If you are told the car needs shocks and all sorts of other stuff, dont be afraid to take it for a second opinion, your dealer will offer a service called a free VSR (Vehicle Safety Report) and will highlight any obvious faults free of charge
