A 2Nd Dmf Failure?

Hi,

I had help off Chatman in 2006 when my DMF failed in turn damaging my clutch.... it was replaced under warranty and all was well apart from an annoying small vibration of the gear stick in 5th gear between speeds of 65ish and 75 until last week... I am finding that I am getting a slight judder when releasing the clutch especially in first gear this week I have also noticed that when the clutch is depressed fully I can feel like little flicks on the pedal and to match these there are little click noises coming from the engine (random) - they are not heard when the clutch is released and in neutral... my concern, as was 4years ago that 48K later it would be a re-occuring nightmare.... I have done 93K and only tow once maybe twice a year weight ratio under the 85% recommendation and all other times predominately local town traffic - I wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

Help as always most appreciated.

Thanks

The symptoms sound familiar. Maybe you should go back to the people that fitted it and let them listen?

If it is the DMF failed again towing is not a sole contributory factor - my RAV`s DMF failed @ 43K miles and it had never towed anything, the springs in the DMF had broken and were trying to exit out of the back of the flywheel.

As I said if it is the DMF again have a single flywheel and clutch conversion fitted - plain flywheels do not fall apart! mines been fine since having a conversion.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, having a transmission expert listen and drive the car - they advised that there was indeed a clutch problem.... only to have the car fail 2 days later...... another new clutch and flywheel fitted !!!! I feel kind of disappointed that this expensive fault has not really been addressed properly by Toyota after being assured by Toyota, who fitted the first failure that I had nothing further to worry about!!!!! and yet four years on I find myself in the same situation only difference is I didnt have warranty for this failure....

Its not really a Toyota problem, its and industry problem and some other makes are far worse. However, its easy to understand that you feel rather bitter about it. It sadly takes away all the benefit of running a diesel.
