New Project! 320Gig Media Player In Car!

OK so ive been thinking about putting a carputor in the Ipsum for a while but the complexity of it all (and cost) was prohibitive...so heres the new plan!

install a WDTV media player and 320 gig 2.5" hard drive into the factory navigation box under the seat.

This will allow me to view all types of video files on the usb hard drive and listen to over 100 gigs of MP3's!! all totally stealth and totally cool!

THE WDTV unit runs off 12 volts so thats a perfect match and the usb drive gets its power from the WDTV usb port. The video and audio are sent to the headunits "video input" via composite cables.

Step1) Remove nav box and bridge the front right speaker wires so it works without the nav box.

Step2) Perform the speed cut/handbrake wire mod so that the video screen still works when driving.

step3) Remove NAV box and strip out all the electronics. then install a custom gearplate to mount the WDTV unit and the 2.5" hard drive.

Also extend the IR reciever and place it up front by the stereo.

i will be updating progress so those with previas/estimas and ipsums can get some inspiration!

Meanwhile heres some useful links for the stereo wiring. (you'll have to put the URL's into ggogle translate to understand the text.)

heres some pics..

you can see how small the WDTV unit really is.

I cut out the back of the Nav box and made a new gear plate and rear face.

i mounted the Hard drive to the gear plate and have placed it so the usb socket is accessible to add/remove songs and videos, without having to pull the drive out of the box

The WDTV unit will be silicon'd or hot glued to the gear plate.

I will also add an on off switch to select between 12 volts from battery(always on). and 12V accessory.
