Hi Folks, I've got a 2004 1.4 d4d t2 Yaris thats started smoking spectacularly. There is also sporadic loss of power under acceleration. Its chucking out black smoke under acceleration and revving the engine whilst stationary. I've changed the air filter , fuel filter, oil filter (and oil),put injector cleaner in it (gave it a blast on the motorway 120 miles) checked and cleaned the air mass meter and cleaned the egr valve. I had it checked on the computer and it says theres nothing amiss. Has anyone else had this or does anyone have any ideas. :help:

I have a 53 plate D4D and whilst I haven't experienced all your symptoms it did start reving erratically whilst stationary (from about 800 - 1500 rpm). The throttle body needed cleaning out as the breather hole was blocked. Theres a great tutorial on here. To put it into perspective my throttle body was that bad I didn't realise where the breather hole was. That cleared my revving problem straight away.

From what you have said you are pretty handy with cars so it should be a very quick job for you. I am a complete numpty but it only took me half an hour to do and two lost sockets... (don't worry, under the engine, not in it!)

Thanks , I will give it a go.

A loss of power and lots of smoke belching out could be a possible turbo problem?

Hopefully it won't be but i would be getting it checked out if i was you.

yea i was going to say fuel pump, i had very similar problems with my rolla, nobody could figure out what was wrong, had it with 6 or 7 lads, in the end the last lad spent 4 days bench testing everything to find there was dirt in the tank and had %$(ed up the pump, toyota wanted €2000 for a new pump and the lad who did the job got a brand new Bosch pump for €350.......some difference, best of luck and keep us informed

oh there are meant to be fairly easy to change by the way, but i got mine done by a diesel engineering crowd
