Handbrake Problem

Hey,

I have sorted my brakes by replacing all calipers and front disc's/pads. The rear disc's and pads look ok so not replaced them.

Anyway, my problem is the rear nearside wheel seems to be permanantly locked up.

I have stripped out the shoes from inside the hub/disc that the hand brake attaches to and everything is at it should be.

However when i put the disc/hub back on and apply the handbrake the wheel just locks up. It will spin freely backwards but will not move forwards.

As far as i can gather something seems to be moving inside the brakeshoe set up (somewhat like a seatbelt when pulled quickly)

Any help would be much appreciated as this is the only thing that is failing the MOT...

Thanks

Hi

Have you tried loosening the handbrake a couple of notches from inside the drum located at the bottom of the shoes.

Hey,

Yeah, everythin is fully adjusted to the minimum (if you know what i mean)

There seems to be very little movement from the actual handbrake cable going into it... the otherside seems fine, its fully functioning and holding when the handbrake is applied.

There is only one cable at the adjuster inside the car, but it is fully enclosed under the heatshield under the car where im guessing it splits to each side...!?

I put them back as they were when i took them out...so unless they were wrong to start with...

I cant get my head around it! Moves fine spinning the wheel backwards then jams solid when im trying to spin forward...

When the handbrake is pulled there is very little/no movement on the passenger side...

Very confused!

Maybe sound daft but are you sure you have adjusted them right as when i was doing my handbrake the other day i realized that the adjusting screw turns the opposite way on the passenger side than the drivers side. If this doesn't work then I would make sure everything is fitted the right way like GT4 BOOSTER suggested.
