Paint Problem

Me again....

2 posts in 2 days....lol

Right my question is as follows..

As I said in my previous post I purchased a second hand Auris (57 reg) from Listers Toyota in Cheltenham.

When we went to look at the car it was a bright and sunny day, took it for a test drive and then came back and did the deal to purchase it.

Fetched the car yesterday morning and again it was nice and sunny and we couldnt see any problems with it, and drove it home...

I didnt use it again until today when I went to work and someone I work with said to me the bumper at the back look a differnt colour.

Now if you look at it in bright sunlight it looks fine, but today being a bit overcast it is really noticable.

If you put an object on the passenger side between the gap where the bumper and side panel is then the object reflects sharply the same both sides

If I do the same on the drivers side then the side panel is a perfect refection and the bumper is all hazy and dull.

I have taken a photo and posted it with this message to show you what im taling about..

You can clearly see a difference in colour between the bumper and side panel..

To me it looks like someone has caught the bumper previously and had a crap touch up job just to sell the car on..

Can anyone tell me if Toyota are able to repair this under the 12 month Toyota warranty that Listers have given me?

Many thanks again and look forward to hearing any comments soon..

That definitely looks like a touch up job two distinct colurs from the quarter panel to rear bumper alright:angry:

Your best bet is to ask John aka Parts King on here, as he is a registered Toyota Dealear and is very familiar with all laws etc

Hope this helps

Hi,

My advice would be to take it straight back to Mr T and politely ask them to recify the fault.

I had a similar issue when I had my Avensis, Mr T sorted it without any drama at all.

You have a 12 month warranty, go for it.

Best wishes

Paul

I called them at 5pm last night and was told the guy who sold me the car wasnt in until today, but was there anyway I could get the car to them to have a look..

So I drove to Cheltenham and Alan, the guy who sold me the car was outside the showroom jotting down some details of some other car..

He said hello and was there any problems.

I told him that the bumper was a different colour one side compared to the other and he took a look and said yes your right, give me 5 mins and ill get the sales manager out..

They came back and said it has had as whats known as a 'smart repair' which i presume is something like the mobile chips away painters or something like that..

He said the car shouldnt have been sent back like that originally and if i could get back next Wednesday to drop the car off for a few days while the bumper is completely resprayed.

They said they would give me a loan car and also compensate me for all my petrol I have used .. This is because its a 120 mile round trip from mine to Listers Cheltenham and i have to do this trip 3 times over the course of a week...

So all in all im very happy and I have to say that the service at Listers is absolutly superb as is Listers at Nuneaton as my father had an Avensis last year and they were nothing but brilliant.. More than i can say for Charles Clarke Toyota in Wolverhampton.. I wouldnt let them put air in my tyres let alone sell me a car... Absolutly terrible...

Thanks for the responses and catch ya all on here again soon with my next problem... :D

Will they swap those over in the warranty as well??

They should do, if you have a good !Removed! at them. As far a I see, it can be a problem on some of the cars and some owners have reported that they were replaced under warranty, other said that they had to kick up a fuss before anything was done

Took my car back to Toyota Listers Cheltenham and they agreed that the bumped did need a complete respray.

Took it back yesterday morning first thing and picked it up today at the end of trading hours.

The sun was out and everything looked ok so I took it home..

Got back to my house and a couple of the neighbours were outside and they both said still not had the bumper done then, to which I replied its done..

They then said its a differnt colour, lo and behold when not in direct sunlight the bumper is definetly darker.

I have now got to piddle about and phone them to see what they can do with it again.

Bear in mind ive made 3 trips there and back so far totalling nearly 400 miles, all be it they did fill my tank to the brim when I bought it back today but ive still got to mess about again..

Ive included a few pics to show you guys so you can leave feedback..

All the best lads and look forward to hearing your replies

Took the car back to Listers Cheltenham and they said that the Toyota Approved Company who sprayed the bumber said that it was the right colour.

I told them to look and you can tell it a totally different colour to the rest of the car.

They told me to leave it with them and they would get back in touch.

The next day I had a call from the sales manager and he said that if it was resprayed again the colour would be excatly the same as it is now..

I told them I wasnt happy and was offered the 30 day exchange plan, to which I told them that they didnt have any more cars in for the price that I could afford.

He told me that I could have a full refund on the purchase price of the car, to which I again told them, I want the car I just want the bumper sorting out.

He said leave it with me again and about 2 hours later he told me to come over to Cheltenham as they had another car in the same colour as mine but they would swap my bumper for that one.

They asked if I was happy with that and I told them yes as long as it matches the rest of the car.

Took it over and they replaced the bumper and even thou its a slightly differnt shade its a million times better than the resprayed one.

The guy came out and showed me and asked if I was happy and I said yes.

He then gave me a bottle of champagne as a gift for all the inconvenience this bumper had caused and he also told me that next time I fill my tank to send the invoice to him and he will reimburse me

with the money for a full tank of petrol.

So overall now I am happy and I have to say that the service over Listers Cheltenham is next to none.. Not once did I feel by any of the staff that I was being a nuiscance.

I would highly recommend Listers Cheltenham to anyone, unlike Charles Clarke Toyota in Wolverhampton who are downright rude and could do with some lessons from Cheltenham.

Sounds like a result to me!

I would add that the reputation of any manufacturer must be down to the quality of service that their main dealers give. I've always been happy with Lookers at Rayleigh Weir, although I've seen others on here that have had problems with them. Maybe it's your approach to the dealer? Although it shouldn't be...

I'd be inclined to stick with this dealer if you are impressed with them even though they are some distance from you.

My dad purchased an Avensis from Listers Nuneaton just over a year ago and they too over there were also superb.

He had some problems with paintwork on back panel which they resprayed then when travelling over 60 the car wobbled so they put on 4 brand new alloys and tyres..

They also gave him 2 tanks of free petrol which was about £80 a full tank..

Cant fault Listers at all at the minute

I've noticed bumpers on most cars are a darker shade to the rest of the paintwork if the cars viewed side on in good light/sun light. All makes and models... new and old.

Only theory I can come up with is the bumpers are a bolt on part and maybe produced/painted in a totally different location and any mismatch if it were lighter in shade looks awful... so they are ever so slightly darker.

The theory might be way off the mark, but the mismatching due to them being darker is a fact... have a good look next time the sun shines :)
