Ouch --- Insurance Claim On Corolla. Any Idea Of Actual Costs And Like

My dads 4 door 1.4 Corolla got hit in Asda by a reversing car as he was going past. Passenger door is the worst, quite badly damaged, probably more than just the door skin, rear passenger door also damaged and so too the rear quarter panel and bumper.

Obviously an insurance claim, both parties fully comp, but what is a likely outcome when it's assesed as the car is 7 years old now. How much would a repair like this cost if you were paying for it. The mileage is very low at only 22k or so.

if you know the value of the car then if i remember right insurance companys pay about 65% of the value !!!!! but you could be looking at a right off due to the age !! good luck mate keep us posted

i may get shot metaphorically for saying thisbut if for all the hassle you'll be put through etc the extra money personal injury claim will bring may be worth the trip to the doctors, especially if you're looking at a write off.

Thanks guys. The insurance company is sending an assesor from it's approved repairer in the area to have a look. As to the value I've not much idea. Would proably have said 2.2 to 2.5K off the top of my head but no idea really. I think you are entitled to be put back in the same position you were in before it happened.

"65% of value" Which value ? Forecourt price for similar or what it's worth trade ?

Will keep this updated anyway as it develops.

look on autotrader and eBay same age, spec and so on and get some prices. then if and when they write it off and offer you £???? you can turn round and say "it would cost xxxx to get the same" also has it got full history or any other claims made as that can make a differents in payout.

do as much homework as you can before they make you an offer.

rear 1/4 isnt that bad and is an easy repair (most of it will polish out from the look of it)

door is bolt on as well. if the insurers want to write it off it might be worth getting a quote from a body shop and seeing if the other party want to pay for it that way instead

last noverber my corolla 2002 t3, hit another car, total loss, then insurance paid my 3200 pounds. but more importantly, the rolla has done 180000 miles already, hahahhaa, so my dad is perfectly happy with that, hahaha

Gets assesed on Monday so will have to wait until then to see what the outcome is.

4 door is quite rare, found one for sale that had covered 118k at £2250.

I agree with Dawesy, you can easily get the rear quarter repaired with a fair amount of ease, it is the doors that need replacing so maybe you could push for them to replace those and you can just get on with your car?

I'd be surprised if that was declared a write-off because it only needs some bolt on repairs to have it sorted.

Can't say I know a lot about insurance other than it is too expensive for me, but the fix seems obvious.

It was assesed yesterday... estimates sent to insurance company.

Wanted to be sure that the claim was wholly against and on the 3rd parties insurance before agreeing to repairs (and therefore accepting possible loss of excess and future no claims discount).

Heard today that 3rd party has accepted full blame and insurance company say excess charge is waived and no claims will be maintained.

Garage called today... OK to go ahead, now ordering parts and will arrange time and courtesy car.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Dunno really... the Auris is great to drive, but perhaps a little on the large (the wide side) for a car that's used mainly for shopping and round town.

Hate to say it ;) but maybe the Fiesta with the 1.25L engine. I tried one when I changed cars earlier in the year and was really surprised how lively it was. Great handling too, real "point and squirt" ... although I found it noisier than I expected... and way to expensive for what it was. Think prices have come down though since. A Yaris ? again I tried one a couple of years ago and while great as a town car it wasn't for me.

But we like Toyotas :)

I don't know what the actual repair costs will be but I'll try and found out when it's all done out of interest. I reckon around £1200 to 1400 as a wild guess. If you were paying yourself I would think somewhere around that figure anyway...

Corollas gone in for repair this week... don't know yet how long it will take. Dads been loaned a 1.2 Corsa, haven't driven it but was a passenger in it. Never felt such hard seats, like sitting on a paving stone.

Welcome to the world of modern Vauxhalls....

They are terrible apart from the VXR's and maybe the Insignia.

Our company cars are Vauxhalls and, prior to his awful Chevrolet,my father-in-law had 2 Astras and every single one of them puts me in agony with my back within 20 minutes of driving or as a passenger, the seats are that hard :(

The corolla got picked up today... took longer than estimated, don't know why but I suspect waiting for some parts.

Looking it over and have to say repair is first class. It looks like the rear door was replaced to me as well, which I'm surprised at. Whole of rear bumper has been resprayed too. The shut lines and alignment are 100% spot on, just as they should be with absolutely perfect gaps and each door not recessed or proud... it's as close to perfection as you could get. The paint finish is excellent too.
