Corolla 2.0 D4D Sr Brakes Query

Hi - am looking some feedback regarding the brakes on a 2007 corolla 2.0 d4d sr since new have always found that there is alot of travel in the brake pedal before i find the car braking. was wondering was this normal? or does it sound like it is a problem? or could it be a simple adjustment task? your feedback on this matter would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance BLUEFIGSR
