Dave Burwash says his standard brakes are fine on his 270bhp Starlet

He's got Pagid Pads, 3G discs, race fluid and braided hoses, but the calipers are standard and the discs are just drilled/grooved versions of the standard ones.

There are many companies in the UK who will do a FRONT big brake conversion, such as Kent Auto Developments(KAD), High Spec, even Tarox will do one for you if you send the front assembly to them!!

But I doubt anyone can do anything for the rear, as the rear discs have integral bearings. So I don't think you can even get aftermarket discs :(

Hope this helps

Like whats been said don't just think you need big brakes better discs, lines and fluid will change the breaking dramatically

yes..i know. right now the site is down due to rory putting up some updates..

should be back up in a couple of days

but heres the conversion..... usin discs and twinpot calipers form a toyota mr2 turbo/superstrut levin/gt4...

.....its dirt cheap and really effective

the conversion involves

1 pair mr2 discs/2 pot calipers (u can also use AE101SS Levins)

Labour (machining discs and spacer)

New longer lugs - free (off a 4WD Hiace)

The mr2 discs and the standard ep91 discs are not the same. The mr2 discs are thicker than the standard, plus the calipers are floating twin piston instead of single piston. They are a huge improvement over the stock set up,

There are two ways of doing this. The first is to cut the caliper mounting tabs off the mr2 hub and weld them in place of yours. This will allow you to use the rotors at their full diameter 264mm.

The other way which Im going to do. machine down the discs back to the the 254mm to fit the stock setup. A spacer and some slight machine work will be needed to fit the stuff back into the standard location.

the spacer is bascialy a mechined down version of my ep91 disc measurin 10mm

it actually has to go behind the disc to centre it in the caliper. So its not a wheel spacer as such.

A step backwards you might say, but they WORK.

1) The discs will go on, but won't centre unless you have a spacer made for the hub.

2) You will need longer studs.

3) You only need the discs, the calipers, and the brake pads clips.

anyone lookin for a cheap conversion that has the effects of a 4 pot look no further...

rorys site should be back up in a couple of days...

it contains lots of useful info about how to improve upon the ep91 starlet....

hope this helps
