New Seat? What Do You Think?

My nice new Avensis T4 has developed a click from the seat and it is booked in for investigation in a couple of weeks time the nice man in reception said it is possible they will have to remove the seat and take it apart to see what is wrong.

I have been thinking about this as I had a brand new Vauxhall which had to have the seat out and it was never right, the interior trim was damaged and the seat never felt the same, the trim etc was rectified eventually but it was never right.

With this in mind and as my car is a 2010 model with just over a 1100 miles on the clock and just over a month old I thought that a brand new factory supplied seat would be the best option so I spoke with Toyota customer relations who said they could not authorise this as they had to give the dealership a chance to put the seat right in the first instance.

It could be that the dealership will fix it and all will be well but it just seems to me it would have been better customer service to have said yes we will supply a brand new fully fitted factory seat.

The mileage is a tad over 1100 miles as I have recently returned from France< otherwise it would be more like 250 miles but that aside its just the thought that what is virtually a brand new car will have the seat taken out and tampered with.

What are you thoughts on this, am I being unrealistic to expect a new seat on what is to me a new car.

Just had my car in for the same problem, it was clicking on mid movement forward/backwards. Mr T had seat removed to exposed the seat drive problem solved it appeared that some loose foam from the seat had got into the electric drive shaft and on each rotation was making it click in the mid section of travel, must admit it sounded worse than it actually was, i reckon it could be anything dropped on the seat tracking and the only way to find it is to removed the seat.chair.gif

Thanks for that if it is the electric drive motors or track then I have no problem with the seat removal, my issue is a bit of play so when i brake the seat moves slightly and same on acceleration and I suspect that the dealership who have been wonderful will do a good job it is just that if they have to actually take the seat apart I worry that it may never be the same but maybe I worry needlessly, to Toyotas credit it they have said if I am not happy then they will review things and they may supply a complete seat, just seems that my past luck with repairs is not good.

Thanks for the reply.

My car was booked in to have the seat seen to on 11th August and if the problem appeared to be within the seat then what type of repair was to be made would be discussed with me.

I had a phone call from the service department who said they had tried to pre-order the parts required but were told stock not available as this seemed strange he phoned Toyota to query the situation and was told this seat clicking had now become a known issue but they had as yet not traced the reason so were looking into how best to rectify the issue.

To see what my options were I spoke with trading standards who told me the only way foreward for me as the car had a known issue for which there was no fix was to take the car back and ask for a replacement car or a full refund.

If I accept a repair when available then it is up to Toyota to do the fix as they see fit.

The car is now 5 weeks old.

Has anyone else been in this situation or any comments welcomed.
