Cel Light On - No A/c?

Hi

I noticed when driving home from work today that my CEL light had come on with my TRC light + VSC light, i also seen that my air conditioning is not working. My car is driving as well as it has ever done so i dont think i have the usual SMT gearbox/clutch issues but can anyone confirm that there might be a connection between my A/C not switching on and these lights being lit??

I thanks you all in advance ;-)

I had a quick google, it seems that any time the CEL comes on in an SMT the ECU disables the VSC and TRC to save too much load on the engine (sort of safe mode) hence why the the TRC/VSC light is on telling you the system is turned off.

No idea if or why this would be affecting the A/C or if it is just a coincidence, perhaps your A/C just needs a re-charge.. which it will by now if it hasn't had one since new.

I can't help with the CEL but I think that the A/C failing is a coincidence.

Go to an A/C specialist, get them to re-gas it and put some dye in the system (it isn't visible to the naked eye). They will ask you to return when it begins to leak again and it doesn't work, and when you do, they will scan it with a UV torch which will show up the dye around the engine bay. They can then find the leaking pipe from that technique and repair it for you.

Hopefully it just needs to be re-gassed and there is no leak. It is highly unlikely that the compressor will fail. ;)

Thank-you for your replies, I have just returned from my local mechanic and as you predicted in your pm davy I have a failed o2 sensor, heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2. I feel really stupid admitting to this but for the a/c to work you have to have the fan switched to at least 1 which I didn't, it was at 0, thought that would make you smile ;-)

Called Mr T and they want 170 + vat for new sensor, off now to see how much it will cost me on-line!

Thanks again!
