When It Rains It Pours...

I went out around midday to buy some food and on my way back I parked up behind a lorry in a lay by (had a good distance between us) to have a bite to eat and contemplate life. The lorry driver then started his engine and I thought he was going to move off. For some ridiculous reason he started to reverse and reversed straight into the front of my beautiful little Yaris. There was an almighty crunch, I've got a big dent in my bonnet, a splitting headache and now have to make an insurance claim as well. As if life isn't bad enough already... :'(

Up until recently it was a beautiful unmodified example of a car. I loved it and took great care with it. Then it all went downhill with someone denting the rear bumper and someone else keying down the drivers side of it (on both occasions I wasn't present) and now this! *Cries*

Even though it wasn't my fault, if I make a claim against their insurance will it affect my premiums in any way?

Unfortunately it will... :(

You'll also have to declare any claims regardless of fault when getting new quotes...

Unless the lorry drivers firm will pay for the repairs without going through the insurance co's...

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. It shouldn't affect your premiums if the other party is 100% at fault but you will still have to declare accidents and losses regardless of blame and regardless of a claim being made when renewing or setting up a new insurance policy.

Hope that helps and that you get it sorted quickly and smoothly.

Sorry to hear that

No claims bonus is exactly that, NO claims bonus and not NO BLAME BONUS

However the lorry company may not want to put it through their insurance either

PLEASE PLEASE tell me you got all the driver details, company details, Reg number etc. I have had a fair few dealings with transport companies in the past where the driver does not report the incident to the company, you then go round in circles and nobody wants to know. I would phone the transport manager and give him all the details of the incident and let him take it up with the driver. Nothing like striking while the iron is hot!

We had a trailer written off when a driver reversed into it, he said sorry and it was his fault, however he never reported it to the company and they didnt want to know, we had to sue them!

Good luck

Kingo

If you have a claim made against you then you will lose a portion of your no claims bonus,(assuming it's not protected)on the other hand if you successfully claim against the person you had the accident with then your no claims bonus remains intact.

Thanks for the advice guys. I didn't call or report it to the police as I didn't think it was necessary. Lets face it, the police don't care about car accidents unless they are very serious and there are either injuries or fatalities involved. Or at least, thats my experience and opinion of them.

The bloke was nice enough. Took pictures for the companies and his own records. Wrote down his license registration, the company to which the vehicle belongs to and is operated by, number of their office and details of the insurer. Alas, I didn't ask him to write down his name as I thought that all the information he gave me already was sufficient.

Admiral were quite nice and easy to deal with over the whole thing. They took down the details but said that because I didn't get the drivers name it may take a little longer to get my car repaired (damn!) Once it gets repaired and doesn't affect my premiums thats the main thing. Hopefully they'll replace the bonnet altogether. I'll be almighty p*ssed off it they just try and pull and beat it back into shape again.

Some good may come of this such as you could try and negotiate a good price for fixing the rear bumper and the scratches while they are repairing the bonnet, (it helps if the person you're dealing with at the body shop is sympathetic)It really shouldn't cost a lot especially if they dont have to supply any extra parts as the 'tooling up' costs will be met by the insurance company, just some extra paint and a few minutes of labour to complete the job.

If you don't ask, you don't get! Good luck in any case.

Argh!! :eek::crybaby:

Condolences man... I know it's a horrible feeling :(

It's always worst the first time, but at least you kept your head and got all the details!

Reporting it to the police is mainly to get a case number as opposed to prosecution; It's more useful if it's an accident with an individual and it's their fault, in case they try and pull a fast one. It can open up more options with the insurance company in that event, but everything seems to be going smoothly so you probably don't need to :)

Let us know how it goes on with Admiral; One thing there's never enough info on is how easy or hard the insurance company is to deal with for a claim!

Hope you get your car back soon, and all nice and shiny! :D

The one time i've had to make a claim it wasn't the smoothest of processes. I used to be with Direct Line and when a van ran into the side of me it took from september til june before the claim was fully settled. It was mostly down to a lack of chasing by the insurance company as I was informed that AAH Pharm. had swapped insurance companies and Direct Line had lost track of who was dealing with the claim. I also had to get the most tiny insignificant scratch repaired so that I could threaten legal action which ended up with a big hole in my front wing (currently in the process of being fixed, in need of some paint!). All in all I was quite disappointed, hence why i'm now with Aviva! :)

Dude that really really sucks. Sorry to hear that. I'd have gone absolutely ballistic at the driver had he done that to my Corolla..... :censor:

I hope things begin to look up for you soon.

I was too busy trying to be cool and manly about the whole thing! Was trying so hard to hold back the tears that my little baby got crunched up! Ah ha. I hope things get settled too and I really hope the garage just sticks a new bonnet on it instead of trying to beat it out. If I'm unhappy with the work carried out where do I stand?

Hopefully I'll receive the paperwork soon so I can get everything rolling!

Admiral in my experience are very good. Have given me the cheapest price two years in a row and are cool to deal with.
