Iq What Lurks Beneath....

Hey Guys,

Have had my IQ3 since june and its only covered 900 miles! I love the car and I am throughly pleased with it so far.

Today though i did make a rather unwelcome and unpleasant discovery just below the n/s front wheel arch. Mega corrosion on part of the suspension just below the spring! Now i would usually expect minor rusting at this stage in a cars life however not at under two months old and its not even covered 1000 miles. I will be in touch with my nearest centre about this and take it from there. Id be interested in hearing if anyone else has been affected by this issue and if it is affecting both sides of the car.

Had a quick look at ours after reading your post and it looks normal to me. I only looked under the O/S wing after turning the wheel to full lock and the rust was minimal and only surface rust at that on suspension components, not body structure. Our iQ is nearly 18 months old and about 16,000 miles.

On my previous Aygo some parts of the suspension did not have any paint of any kind on them from new, they WERE rusty from the day I bought the car!Saves production costs I suppose.

It is not unusual to see brown surface corrosion on cast steel suspension and driveshafts. This isonly superficial surface corrosion and will rarely ever get any worse. If you are concerned with the cosmetic look of the corrosion it may be possible to lightly spray coat or wipe the affeted cmponents with a very light machine oil.
