Avensis Auto Noise When Pulling Away On Start Up

Hi, I own an 03 avensis 2.0 t3x auto. I've noticed when pulling away after first start up a crunch as if I've driven over something in the road. Doesn't seem to be due to the car being cold as even when warm if I stop turn off ignition re start and pull away I get the same. Trigger seems to be turning off ignition as if I stop the car let it idle in neutral or park then pull away I don't get the problem. Any ideas? Is this the norm as I haven't had an auto before?

When I first got my Avensis 2.0 diesel some time ago I too noticed this 'crunch' as I set off. I posted on here and several people suggested it was something to do with the anti-lock braking system initialising. If it's the same thing as happens to mine, it makes the noise as you reach 1-2 mph. and is fairly quiet (if the radio was on you probably wouldn't hear it). Anyway I've had my car 2 years without any problems and the noise still occurs as I set off. Perhaps someone more technical could help you but I think it's not something to worry about.

I have a 2.2d-4d and that does the same crunch when pulling off. Its a manual so must be the same across the board!

As I can remember, answer to this question You can check in Avensis User Manual Book. I am not sure, but this is not a problem. This have something with some unlocking of systems in car. I think this is crunch from some system of unlocking airbag control or similar, but it is sure normal for avensis, as manufacturer said in book.
