Rav4 4.1 1995 Which Direction To Fit Air Filter?

Hi All,

Having just bought an old RAV4 i've been performing some basic maintenance.

I just changed the air filter and in the manual it states "note which way round its fitted and put it back the same way".

Err, well after having removed the filter and cleaned bits of old leaves from the actual air box I forgot which way it had come out.

And there's no guarantee a previous owner did it correctly anyway...

The actual filter element is slightly slanted. Standing in front of the car with the air box on my right hand side, which way should the elements in the filter slant?

Or doesn't it make any difference?

Cheers!

Stu.

Hi Stu,

Can't help with the slant of the elements but:

[a] Do you still have the old filter? If so the dirty side will be the inlet side i.e. facing the dirty air coming in.

Are there absolutely no marks, arrows or other indications on the filter - assuming it has a plastic moulded 'frame'?

If, as I suspect, the above has been no help, doubtless someone more knowledgeable about 4.1s [bothy where are you?]

will be able to advise

The flange of the filter goes at the top and the thin end of the lid goes to the right.
