Abs Light On

hello i got my front drivers wheel bearing done .. when i picked car up never thought nothing was wrong .as the dreadful drone offf the bearing had left so i was glad . but then i looked down on the dash three lights on abs vsc and traction off . i got home and discovered the garage had sheared the bolt holding the speed sensor in .. and wait for it the sensor was held in place with a couple off turns off insulating tape and just pushed into the joint. is the air gap vital i went to passsenger side and that sensor sits in nice and flush .. i will have to try and get the old bolt extracted .. ps will it need a toyota dealer to put the lights off...

You need to go back to the garage that broke the sensor mount and get them to fix it. Threaten them with legal action as this is putting your life in danger. The boss there will probably not be aware as it will be the usual mechanic coverup.

I would take pictures of the insulation tape ect and play holy hell, if this is how the garage deals with its customers i would go to the media ect or at least tell the garage you intend to get them publicised, but the last replie off fitter that the manager will not know that this quick fixed has been implemented and needs to be raised with him in person.

if i get the broken bolt out is the abs not working as . the sensor is not tight and flush in the joint ..

As mentioned before, the garage need to fix the ABS or compensate you for any repairs. Don't try anything before you get an indipendent expert witness report and get photographic evidence too. The car is now classed as unroad worthy under MOT regulations, and the garage is responsible.

If you have an accident, you could be prosecuted as recently highlighted in a recent case.

When I had a noisy front wheel bearing last year, I was worried about the same thing so decided to change it myself. On a mk1 Avensis, the sensor is help in place by one bolt and it is not obvious to anyone not familiar with the model. A Toyota specialist or any decent mechanic should not have made the mistake!

You cannot botch a fixing as the ABS sensor is a precision device. It has to be placed in the correct position, plus the vibrations will dislodge it.

I am not a mechanic, so am surprised a 'qualified' mechanic got it wrong!!!
