Idling / Ignition / Ecu Problem ?

Hi All,

Been a forum member a while but never needed to use your collective know-how given the Toyota's unending reliability.

We own a 1992 Celica convertible , import - 4WS , 3SGE engine.

Been a faultless car until yesterday when it cut out unexpectantly after 1/2 mile from home. ECU light appeared after / during cut out

When I went to rescue the 'mrs' it started first time but did peeter out after about 2 mins idling. again ECU light was lit

We got it to the local garage who knows the car and code read the diagnostics

This reported Code 14 - with messages about ignition circuit fault, ignition amplifier or wiring fault.

also he noticed the car was idling very low at around 500 rpm, both him and the AA recovery said the car was smelling 'lean'

We got another iginition amplifier from TCB spares (pre tested ) and the garage fitted it.

After resetting the faults the car appeared OK

On driving home it was fine but did stall out when idling after 2 - 3 mins when we got back

The garage also checked the Lamda sensor which was switching and functioning fine.

So .... after £50 for a ignition amplifier I'm wanting ro avoid a huge 'swap it and change it' bill to fix our beloved 'BAZ'

first time of using the forum so hope you can help

I accept its a bit of a long shot so happy to anser any questions to help you help us

Ps - as a final note the Mrs does tend to use the car for weekly short runs of 1 - 2 miles and the occasional 'run' but has been doing this for ages ?

thanks in advance

Paul
