Richt Hand Drive - But Wrong Speedo

Hello,

I am new here and was wondering if anybody has any advice or can point me in the right direction.

2 years ago I became the proud owner of my little Yaris, in Cyprus (from the Toyota dealer). Being right hand drive I thought great stuff, when it comes to moving back to the UK all I need to do is ship the car and register her in the UK.

I was wrong! Although my car manual states that I can switch the speed from km/h to MPH, this is not possible in my Yaris. According to Toyota Cyprus I need a new instrument cluster, which they cannot even supply. Toyota Europe were equally helpful and supplied no information at all.

As we know, the Yaris has a digital speed display - surely it should be possible to re-program this? Does anybody here know anything about it? Has anybody faced the same problem?

I have also tried to email a couple of Toyota dealers in the UK from Cyprus and they were just as helpful as anybody else - I got no reply.

Thanks in advance if anybody can help.

On a UK spec car all you do is press the button to convert to KMPH or MPH is that not possible on yours???

Hi Kingo,

that is exactly what the manual says, but it is not possible with my Yaris. I was told it is a different instrument cluster to any other right hand drive car model.

I cannot imagine that Toyota make cars just for the Cypriot market with a different instrument cluster?

:crybaby:

I have seen the Yaris speedo converters (kph - mph) for sale on eBay and I'd always wondered why until it dawned on me that they were for Japanese imports (and possibly Cypriot imports as well. Most if not all the Vitz models in Cyprus are Jap imports!)

I have just had a look on eBay but found nothing specifically for the Yaris but keep looking as these things seem to pop up frequently.

Happy hunting!

Although im sure I will face some negative comments about admitting this, I wouldnt worry so much about converting the car to kph reregister it in the UK, as long as your comfortable converting it as you go which is easy trust me. iv imported my car to the uk and re-registered it with the DVLA had it Moted for 2 years running now and still they have not picked up that my car only displays in KPH :) all you need is the certificate of conformity availible if you contact Toyota, wheather they dont check them thoroughly or what I dont know but either way dont stress over it dude.

Because I'm very old, I rememebr this question coming up before. On that occasion I think it was a car from Ireland.

It surprised us all in the UK but the conclusion then was that in other RHD countries, if the country uses Kilometres as its measurement, then you only get a KPH speedometer and don't get the abitity to change it to MPH.
