Toyota Reimburses Rav4 Owners

Hi, I am new to the forum.Iam one of the many Rav4 2002 owners who had problems with the ECU/transmission.I wonder how many of us are in Europe please?

I am posting a link-an article from today's NY Times that states, all Rav4 owners in the States will be reimbursed by Toyota for repairs carried out on their ECU/Transmission, plus they received 10 year warranty.

We need to get Toyota Europe to do the same.

I did speak to Toyota some time ago and they fobbed me off saying that the ECM in the USA is different from the one in Europe, which does not explain why so many Australian Rav4 owners are having the same problem.Also, an American mechanic has confirmed to me that he has customers from all over the world to repair the ECM's, so it is a global problem, irrespective of the part numbers difference.

I have forwarded this article to them and asked for my money back( costly repair)and currently awaiting a reply.

It seems that consumer power in America has won, unfortunatelly I live in a country where only 2 RAV 4 2002 with an automatic gearbox were sold.

That would be a 50% failure rate of that model sold in Italy

Yes, good news only for the consumers in the USA, especially after so many law suits re this problem were filed by customers..For us poor mortals in Europe and Australia,seems Toyota is not interested.

I just got a very predictable reply from Toyota saying that this is a problem only with rav4s 'produced and sold in the USA', or you can read it, the powerful consumer loby kicked our a**.

I know for sure that a garage in NY has dealt with ECM repairs from all over the world.

Anyway, I do not give up, it took 4 years for Toyota to own up and pay up, I can wait.

that's true, i know that guy in NY and he does repair ECU from all over the world and fixes the problem!
