Yes - the 1.33 engine and six speed gearbox comes with stop/start technology and is fitted to the Auris, Yaris and Urban Cruiser.

Whether or not the stop/start kicks in would depend on a number of factors, but would include how long the test drive was, and what electrical load was on the car during the test drive.

When I test drove a 1.33 in September last year, the dealer used a new car that was being collected by the new owner that week. Cool September morning - and the car hadn't built up enough 'charge' in the system for the sto/start to work until the end of the test drive.

The eletrical load on the car (ie air conditioning on, stereo on, etc) can also have an effect on when the stop/start kicks in.

Generally with the current weather we're having (dry'ish, warm, etc)means that once the system has generated sufficient charge (usually after only a few minutes running), the system works well. For example, on my daily commute, the first set of traffic lights are approx three minutes drive away - if I have to wait at these lights the stop/start kicks in.

My fuel consumption on my daily commute (6.5 miles each way in Birmingham city centre traffic) is up to 37 mpg, whereas my previous 1.4 Corolla did 32mpg on the same journey.

What??? The dealer was using someone's new car as a demonstrator? That's shocking, isn't it?

The second of two poor experiences with the Toyota dealership in Birmingham. The test drive was booked over the internet via the Toyota site, and when I arrived at the dealer on the morning of the test drive, it was quite apparent the staff weren't expecting me. They didn't have a 1.33 demonstrator, and this was the best alternative they could come up with. They did at least OK their actions with the prospective new owner by phone before the test drive. They promised to follow up the test drive after we came back of holiday two weeks later, but left it four weeks before phoning me - by which time I'd ordered from another dealer.

For the second time in three years, I had a disappointing test drive experience at this dealership, and then purchased my new cars from Inchcape at Burton - who were brilliant.

Got to agree with Frostyballs. Inchcape Toyota in Burton are fantastic. They delt with the accelorator recall on my SR180 and they were the most professional dealership I have ever had the fortune of dealing with. The lady who handles front of house made me a coffee and spoke to me in a friendly manner. More professional than the bigger Derby branch where I brougt the car from.

I thought this was a one off because of the recall, but took my car back with a puncture 2 months later and recieved the same great front of house service. The machanic who delt with my car was even more helpful. He tried to fix the puncture for me first but couldnt and so sourced me a genuine Dunlop SP01 tyre within 20 mins. All in all the whole visit came to £85, an absolute bargin and cheaper than my local tyre specialist.

I even took my missus 1.8 Yaris SR for a service and two new tyres which all in all cost me £265 in total.

I have had Renaults for many years from Sutton Park Burton and every time they have been seviced or work has been done I have always felt ripped off. Here is just a brief history ,£500 for the 36000 mile service, £1200 for a new steering rack at 60000 miles, and they didnt tighten the wheel nuts up and the wheel nearly fell off in Tescos car park which they would not admit liability, they were the only ones who touched the !Removed! car.

I have nothing but praise for Inchcape Burton, and I will not hesitate to take my car there when I require work to be done.
