Shoddy Gearstick Gaiter

The gear stick gaiter ( if thats the right name ) - cover around gearstick started coming away on my 2002 GS Avensis - on investigating the whole cover came away from its eh fixing. As far as I can tell a couple of lugs on the bottom plastic plate which slide into a very narrow groove. Anyway I couldn't get the thing to stay put so I've had to stick it with pvc glue ..... ! When the gaiter is removed a lot of the linkage is exposed ... I'm just so disappointed to see this tacky bit of trim especially as I was impressed with the rest of the trim upgrade ( soft touch black plastic etc. ) at least it looks good but what lies beneath ?

Is it the same on all models I guess the top of range are leather .

I never had any problem with Cavalier and the pvc looked much more like leather as well !

Anyone had a similar experience ?
