Car failed mot on rear handbrake and rear brake discs and pads, should take a couple of hours tops to sort so decided to do myself, wish i'd just paid a garage!

Took the rear calipers off and the drum/disc fell off it was that loose, inside the shoes had collapsed but were totally worn anyway, bought some more Bosch have fitted and wound the adjuster totally in yet the drums still won't go over? the top of the shoes seems to have a gap which won't close due to the lever from the handbrake cable, as the drums were collapsed not sure if maybe the lever should go the other way round? anyone have any ideas or a picture of the correct assembly please?

its driving me crazy, just needs a few less mm

Are the cut-outs that go around the top pivot pin the right size?

A photo of your set-up may help.

make sure the shoes are not the wrong way around , its an easy mistake to make . diagram is from a carina but should be roughly the same as its a toyota , other image is of an st205 but same as st202 rear brakes , hope this helps. ?? brake shoes should have a leading edge - ie - thicker at one given end , you may have put the passenger side shoe on the drivers side - visa versa . another problem with fitting them wrongly is when you apply the handbrake you can spin the drum by hand one way but not the other .
