Alarm / Immobiliser Key Position

I am trying to locate the override switch fitted to my wife's 1996 RAV 4. The car came with an additional type of key to manually disarm the alarm, but I do not know where this "lock" will be located - any ideas ???

Hi,

I found this today. Open the bonnet and you will see the alarm unit mounted on the rear baulkhead. There is a rubber cap on top of it it, and when you remove the cap you can insert the key. Note this only seems to disabe / re-enable the siren. It does not disable the alarm.

This type of alarm is a "system 5000" some parts are available for it but it would be better to cut it out and put a new system in place as there are so many problems in getting them working after they have gone haywire

Thanks for this. I will have a look and see if turning the alarm off will reset it. The RAV had a flat Battery and this made the alarm not work at all, ie the remote control sender does not lock or activate the alarm anymore
