Aygo Paintwork

Recommended Posts

Hello

We are having a few problems with what seems to be a peeling bumper! I wondered if any other Aygo owners out there have had the same problem?

We have been told today from the " Service " manager.. that the reason for the peel is down to us travelling too close to the car in front!

I have never heard anything so ludicrous.

Any info or comments will be grately recieved.

Thanks :)

Sounds like a hes feeding you some bull, I've never heard of that before,

Do you use a pressure washer to clean your car? I've had paint flake off on a previous car due to that, it was a panel that had been resprayed in the past though.

Is it still in waranty?

:ffs: !Removed! 'el - you must have been very very very close (perhaps married?) for years for some other guys exhaust to do that to your paintwork - think traffic jams and it doesn't happen.....

Are you sure it was the service manager and not the tea boy???

Hi..

Thanks for your reply, Its never been pressure washed, been through the car wash though.

Its the plastic coating on the front bumper thats the problem.. its peeling :(

Yep its still in warranty, but as we apparently drive too close the warranty is void!

I'm so cross.. We're going to take it to a different Toyota garage next week and see if the service manager there is a little more helpful.

Pippa.

Tee Hee..

Yep he's the service manager, I've had a run in with him before over a 51 plate yaris that went in for a routine service and came out needing a new steering column! :(

I am very interested to see if anyone else's Aygo's done this? How do they know its not a defect unless they actually look?!

Grrr..

The service manager is talking complete sh*te (excuse my language). If you drive too close to the car in front, it may increase the number of stone chips on your bumper, but will not cause the paint to peel. As said before, pressure washers can soften the paint and cause it to lift, or perhaps excessive use of solvents on the paint, but otherwise it is defective paint and it should be resprayed under warranty. However, it needs to be rubbed right back and prepped properly before respraying, otherwise it will just peel again.

Good God you must be a patient/calm/polite one to have stood there and taken that tripe from the 'Service' manager. I would have let rip!

I think going to another Toyota Dealership is definitely the order of the day and a strongly worded letter of complaint to the Dealer Principle, copied top Toyota GB might be in order.

I have a very low tolerance for stupid and this really hits new depths. Oh how I wish sometimes how I would come across these people :)

Hang on, if I remember me reading it right, that the paint is covered by a 10year warranty, so it should be done under that, if i am thinking straight

I may be mistaken but I think you're referring to the anti-perforation warranty. Paint is usually the same for the period of manufacturers warranty.

How do they know how far away from the car in front you are? How do they judge what is too close? Sounds ridiculous to me...

I'd like to agree that the manager is taking s**t. An independent inspection might be helpful (AA or RAC or whoever). With all that bad publicity this might even make a fun small story in the newspaper.

Good luck with that - let us know how you get on!
