Gen 7 190 Poor Acceleration

Hi everyone,

I have a Gen 7 190 and when the revs get towards the high end I believe all the valves should open right up and the car should boost. This is not happening. Instead when it gets to the point where the boost should kick in the car feels like its choking. Could this be lack of air or fuel or maybe something else?

Normal driving round town or on the motorway is fine its just when you accelerate hard into the high revs!

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure but I have read something on these pages about 'lift bolts', but I could be totally wrong :hang:

I'm sure someone will soon be along and correct me!

check the lift bolts as they are prone to snapping/wearing , toyota did issue an improved bolt of higher quality with a different taper, because of the problem . The 190 version has lifts bolts that do wear fairly quickly and need to be kept an eye on as part of regular maintenance (50k+ miles is when you need to think about changing them and they are very cheap to buy and it's not too hard to do yourself)

about £1.50 a pair at toyota . vvtli should kick in at around 6200 rpm .

if they have snapped they will require drilling out , if they are worn only - here's a how to do it -- http://www.users.on.net/~nbenjamin/tech/liftbolts/

toyota offered to do them for free on a 5 year or 60k warranty - maybe you qualify -- http://www.users.on.net/~nbenjamin/tech/liftbolts/liftbolts.pdf

Could be lift bolts or OCV.

When sort of revs is it gettting up to? The engine is up to temp?

Its when the revs reach around 6000rpm and yes it is up to temp.

I've not had a chance to do anything yet but think I'll check out the OCV filter first and failing that the lift bolts.

Thanks for your help in advance guys.
