Hi, had to call the AA today, for the second time, boot lid not shut properly and it ran the Battery down to nothing, anyway they turned up, and got it going, so we went of for a drive to charge it up, but unlike last time where we went for a long drive, this time we had to do some shopping, still with me? not wanting to switch the engine off I stayed in the car park to keep the enging going, I had to keep my foot on the peddle to keep the revs up, to stop it going into electric silent mode..................now to back track, we have had the car for a year, the day I got it I took the mats out of the last car so I did not mess up the new mats in this car, so there I am foot on the gas, each time I eased off, the petrol side of it all would stop, for some unknown reason I looked down and noticed the peddle was stopping on the carpet, so I took the carpet out, good grief, it was like a new car, I pulled out the car park and put my foot down, the thing went like a rocket. went off down the bypass, you would have thought someone had put another engine in it. not knowing what a 59 prius went like, I accepted it for what it was.........................................what a plonker......................... :crybaby:

reminds of the the time i ran a small garage for my brother in suffolk, and this women came on fourcourt with a ford anglia (it was back in the about 1962)she said to me she had the car 6 months but in all that time she had not been able to find reverse on it.she had to go miles out of her way till she could turn around in one go.

she said in all that time she had been too embaressd to ask advice.she said because the garage had a large forecourt

she going swollow her pride and ask someone,(thats me)and if i didnt know there was plenty of room to get back on the road.i told her sure just pull the gear lever upwards then into reverse.she tried it and got into reverse first go.she was so pleased she insisted on giving me a £5 that was a big tip in them days.

Obviously not the official gen3 Prius sized car mats. The drivers side mat is short and doesn't reach the pedals unlike the passenger side mat which goes right into the foot well.

I would be very very very wary of using non standard floor mats!

Surely you've read all the reports of unintended acceleration where the floor mat got trapped under the accelerator? You really must use Toyota floor mats and ensure they are connected to the hooks in the floor. Sounds petty, but better than rear ending someone!

when I put them in I never gave it a thought, they were out of the "B" class, I thought they were a good fit, from the edge of the seat mounting and right up under the pedals. now I know different.

LOL, In 1962, you could probably buy an old Ford Anglia for £5

I'm never ceased to be amazed by what customers put into their brand new cars to save a few quid on mats

Umpteen times I see bits of shag pile :naughty: on top of rubber mats (probably from that old Anglia) to mats from other makes and models. Why would you want to do it? You spend £20K on a superb new car and fit mats from a Fordson Tractor..............words fail me..........rant over

Kingo

I blame the dealers

You spend £20k on a brand new car and they won't throw in a set of £10 (cost price to them) mats.

Well that's not exactly true for me as my dealers did throw in a set of Toyota mats with the sale. But that's because they're ace.

Thats why you are the Grumpy Cabbie :P

If you were to get mats thrown in somebody would stick another set on top to stop them getting dirty or flog on the bay of fleas to get a few quid back!

Me too. But I did ask - doesn't everyone ask for them as part of the final, before I sign the cheque, bargain?

The Toyota dealer who supplied my car warned me about using non standard Prius mats. He told me one of his customers had an accident by using non Prius mats. Fortunately he supplied me with a set of Prius mats in with the purchase of the car.

Sounds about right. My first car was a Ford Prefect. Cost £10 in 1967.

I got free Prius logo mats from the dealer too, but I covered the front ones with plastic overmats from poundland, bored some holes in them to hold them in place using the original Toyota clips.

hi all

when in an ealier post i mentioned the ford anglia (the generous lady and reverse gear in 1962 saga) i am pretty sure it was the anglia that had a reverse slope rear windscreen, which in 1962 was still being built.

as was the MK1 cortina then.so we may be doing that lady whom i have fond and gratefull memories of an injustice of

saying she was drving an old banger.

but then at my age and considering it was 48 years i may be wrong, but looking back and it seems like yesterday.

can i have my youth back pleeeeese.
