Pug To Sixth Gen Celica Adivce Needed

Hi i need some advise

Ive been driving a pug since I passed my driving and its been so boring driving a 1.1l car for 2 years. But now I have my no claims I want to move up to something a bit better and powerful.

Now i have actually been looking at an e46 BMW and bearing in mind that im a student and at the moment I am on a tight budget I cant afford to splash out too much and my 4000 pounds budget is very tight. I have seen some beautiful 320ci's but these have been high mileage and the thought of having to fork out so much on expensive german parts is really off putting.

However In a year or two i should be more financially secure.

So ive been thinking i could buy a nice sixth gen celica for under 1 grand and have fun with it for 1 year until i become more stable financially.

The celica was a car that i absolutely loved when i was a kid (plus the supra but i think ill leave that for my mid life crisis lol)

Now here i have some questions

1) How much are repairs on a celica compared to cars in general above avearge, below e.t.c

2) How reliable are celicas in general that have done near the 100k mark in mileage

3) For the upcoming year im not going to be driving everyday for half the year, but the second half i will need the car everyday to get to placements. How is the celica as a day to day car.

4) And finally is there anything i should look out for when buying one?

Thank you so much for reading my long winded post.

1. - expensive if using genuine parts . but they seldom go wrong .

2. - very .

3. - very good.

4. pulling hard to left or right when letting go of the steering wheel on a flat road - ( possible frontal crash damage )

front brake calipers are prone to stick .

just have a good look all around and make sure everything works , windows , locks ,alarm , lights , horn , wipers ,stereo , etc etc , try to find 1 with service history and history of the cam belt . try to go for the 3sge engine as thats the better engine 179 bhp ish , other engines are the 3sfe which is also 2 litres but only 128 bhp ish and the 1.8 st you should really avoid . look for overspray in the wheel arches from paint jobs and general overall condition .
