Which Obdii Scanner Rav4D?

Hi, due to unforeseen circumstances (http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=113666) I need to retrieve fault codes from my ECU.

I have tried 2 (memoscan and ELM 327) and had no luck - comms error.

Has anyone got a make/model no. for me to look at?

(I have enquired about ECU repair from 3rd parties - non of which at this point can fix a Rav4 ECU D4D)

Hi ,I bought Universal Car Fault Code Reader CAN Bus OBD2 EOBD U480 from eBay, its very cheap and works fine.

Its just boderline as to whether an OBD scanner will work. Mr T can read it.

I have just ordered the ELM 327 from eBay, and it reads my 2005 4.2 rav, your sure you have it set up properly with your PC? What software are you using, make sure the comm ports are set the same in the scan software and the computers pc.

It will work but at that price you should be getting a scanner that will read C and B codes as well as the usual P codes. The description lists them but then has question marks all over them.

I would question that with the supplier before buying.

can U please write what other scanner will read C and B codes for that price and will work with my Rav4 ?

What are C and B codes. Chassis? Body? ie the other ecu modules in the vehicle.?

Are P codes the engine ecu only?

I use an "Ultra-Gauge" on my 2004 53 plate petrol.

It reads P codes as well as being an accurate on board computer display.

For the price its a good bit of kit, it has the added benefit of always being plugged in, and it can warn you when "pending" faults are flagged in the ecu.

P is powertrain - engine and gearbox, C is chassis so will read the ABS etc and B is body so that is where airbag and other SRS codes can be found.

The code reader above will read P codes and may read B&C codes but just check with the supplier. This one will do all 3;

Have just tested the ScanMaster Elm ver 2.1 software with the cheapo eBay blue tooth adapter and this software works also.

Just for Engine ECU mind.
