Oil Appearing

Hi Folks,

Just noticed oil appearing around union between what looks like a breather pipe from the rocker cover and the large trunk from airbox DSCN2617.jpg

2008 4.3 D4D.

Car in for service Monday so would like to have some information/ammunition when notifying service manager.

Any advice gratefully received

Probably nothing to worry about Dave. That is the crankcase breather pipe and is meant to recirculate vapours back into the air intake to be burned. As long as it hasn't started drinking more oil than usual you could just make sure the clips are tight/fitted properly. The dust on the engine will make it look work than it is. If you pass this way I will get rid of it for you!

Is that the dust, the oil or the engine Anchs

Thanks for reassurance - I suspected as much but just wanted to be sure. Oil level pretty stable so just the suspension knock when low speed manouvering to be sorted then. Will let you know how I get on with that.

Update:

Service couldn't find a reason for the oil weep so will have another look myself though I couldn't see anything obvious when I looked earlier. Will probably just dry it off periodically.

Steering knock wouldn't manifest whilst they had it but service manager told me the steering rack mountings may well need torquing up. Done this before and cured the knock apparently. That's the good news.

Bad news is that they will need the car for two days as the dash has to come out to get to the bolts  Not keen on that as they have already had the dash out to replace the heater matrix last year and, though there are no rattles, fit of some parts is not as good as new.

Interestingly I was told that the inside face of my front discs was corroded [now there's a surprise] They want me to take it back in three months when they will be worse so an approach to Toyota can be made. I raised the issue of curtailed warranty but the service manager said 'they shouldn't be like that at 30K, bearing in mind the rate of pad wear - just bring it back and we'll take it from there' So, will update again in November
