1998 Rear Hub Bearing

I just replaced my rear wheel hub with a secondhand part. Toyota charge £220 plus for the complete unit, whilst places like Euro car parts charge £42 upwards for the hub bearing, minus the wheel hub and the ABS wheel.

This means that the old hub bearing has to be dismantled after removal to transfer the parts over.

How can this be done as when I tried this, I snapped off the ABS wheel! Two mechanics agree with me that unit cannot be seperated. Lucky for me, the secondhand unit I got is in good condition and quiet.

If somebody has seperated the inner wheel hub and the ABS wheel, and transfered them to the new bearing hub, please let me know how it was done. Also does anybody sell geniune new 1998-2000 complete bearing hubs cheaper than Toyota, let me know.

Depending the condition of the secondhand bearing I may still require a new unit, but it is fine for now.

I changed the unit in 20 minutes from wheel off to wheel on.

Since there is reply, nobody that may have dealt with seperated a rear hub bearing has read my original post.

At least the second hand hub seems fine so far. I went to Devon and back at high speed. That was over 500 miles.

On a side note, the old Avensis performed well and the economy was fine. It has just passed the MOT and the emissions are very good for a 101k mile car.

Back to the topic of swapping the components of a rear hub bearing, I'll be glad to hear from somebody who has done it. Especially those with ABS.
