Is it at all practical to replace the space-saver with a full-size spare on a Gen 2? I don't mind losing the space below the boot floor.

I don't see why not. I haven't measured, but I would be amazed if it didn't fit. The main thing to check is that the centre fixing, holding the spare in place, is long enough for the wider wheel. You might have to adapt that.

You should be able to reclaim much of the space by using executive luggage (supplied free by Tesco etc.) to contain smaller items, which can then be fitted around the wheel.
