recently notice hissing from my 2002 avensis brake pedel, mileage 109k.

Hissing stops when pedal pressed slightly. Has anyone had similar problem

and if so what is the cure?

Thanks

Sounds like the seal on the brake servo is leaking. I don't know if Mr T supplies the seal on its own. Anyone I know who has had this problem have had to fit a replacement unit.:)

If the seal goes completely you will lose all brake assistance even though the brake should still work although at a much reduced affect. Not a good thing in my experience. When it comes to brakes its never worth the risk and in the interests of evryones safety I would recommend you get it repaired. Lets be honest it ain't going to get better on its own.

Sorry I haven't a clue to price but may be worth looking for an after-market replacement as no doubt Mr T will charge many mucho deneros.:)

hi

a servo does not make a better braking,or lack of one make braking worse.

all a servo does is reduces the pedal pressure required for any particlar braking situation.

if you disabled your servo, you just have push on the pedal harder to get the same results as before you disabled the servo.

its the same as disc brakes, they are no better than drum brakes, but run a lot cooler so are less likly overheat and produce brake fade.

as for hissing noise is the car a diesel, then it has a vacuum pump could be the pump itself, or a hose that connects between the two thats leaking.

Hi guys, I am having a similar issue with my 2002 avensis. I have bought a used replacement unit but would still like to find a newer unit - anyone know if it is possible to get one from toyota directly? Problem is its a fairly old part and someone quoted me six hundred quid which is ludicrous!
