Tyre - Major Repair - Manchester

Hi All,

I have just returned from kwik fit with a nail still in my tyre. It's a rear and the nail is about 10mm from the side wall. They won't repair it as it needs a major repair. The tyre is almost new and I don't want to be wasting circa £140. So the question is does anyone know of anywhere who will do an economical major repair, which I believe means it needs vulcanising due to the proximity to the side wall.

Cheers

Chris

Obviously the outlet concerned were only applying the accepted standards of British Standards (BSAU 159). Even major tyre repairs are bound by these rules.

I would suggest you try to contact a tyre dealer who specilises in commercial tyres and they may be able to recommend a specilaist repairer who may be able to salvage your tyre.:)

This should give you a good idea of the tolerances where tyres can be repaired

Remember that is never worth taking a risk with a potentially poor quality repair

Cheers for this, it would appear that these are the tolerences for a minor repair, as explained by the fitter a major repair where new rubber is vulcanised onto the old rubber even sidewall slashes can be repaired provided there is no damage to the cords. I did find a few places on the net but they are down south.

I'll try a commercial tyre place.

Cheers for your help though.
