Loss Of Drive On Landcruiser Colorado 3.0 Auto

Hi

I was driving back from wales the other night at 70mph when i lost power completely. I got towed in by RAC and they thought it was a gearbox problem as there were no leaks and the gearbox level was perfect. After the engine had been switched off for a few minutes the car would drive a few yards before losing power again.By the time the recovery arrived i was able to drive the car on to the wagon. The car was delivered to me the next morning so i tried it again but after half a mile the drive was lost again. The engine revs as normal but there is no drive at all. I switched the engine off for 2 or 3 minutes and i was able to get the car home. There have been no noises and the gear changes have always been smooth so i had no warning at all that there might be a problem. My car is a 1999 model Landcruiser Colorado 3.0 Auto. Any advice would be great as i dont want to have to fork out for a new gearbox

Many Thanks Mike.
