Been Offered A Celica

Hi..

I have been offered a P reg Celica GT Four Twin turbo.

Unfortunatly i know nothing about these cars. So could do with some info. please.

Car offered

P Reg Celica GT four Twin Turbo

160,000 miles, mainly motorway

Completely standard, no mods done at all

Slight dent by rear passenger side, between door and weel arch, where it's hit a low level concrete bollard

Full service history, 3 registered owners

Had original clutch replaced last year,

New brake calipers, pads & disks last year, (said something about calipers being welded on ?)

Usual paint chippings on front, nothing too bad.

The car struggled to pass mot emissions last year due to a faulty lamda sensor, which was replaced.

Can anyone advise on how much the car is worth, and what i should be looking out for for on this model?

Thanks

Surinder...

Being picky but its only got 1 turbo ;) .....

160k is a lot of miles for the age but should be ok if its well looked after,

few things to look at ;

1. turbo? what condition is it in ?

2. Fig of 8's and Lower front suspension arms usually go (bad) between 60k-100k miles so have these beeen replaced recently?

3. Timing belt should be changed every 60k miles. when was it last done?

4. general condition of suspension (is it bouncy? bouncy is usually bad!)

etc etc...

Not all bad though.....

Very nice cars are GT-Fours, should be getting mine soon... :D just get someone who knows about them to look at it..

Try popping accross to the GT4OC (GT Four Owners Club) @ GT4OC you'll need to register though if your not already but loads of advice on there, just use the search function and you'll find loads of info

Hope this helps

erm.. this car is quite different to the Mk1 MR2...  :D

:D i know, but my mate's only ask'in £4500 for it, which at first glance seems like a really good price. The mk1 is still on the table, hopefully going to take a look at two next week.

Thanks Andrew, i'll pester him tommrow. One thing he did mention was that the engine light was on, but he wasnt sure why.

The suspension is solid.

look into doing a diagnostic check mate, look on GT4OC for how to do it (if i remember correctly bridge terminals E1 and TE1 turn ignition to on DONT START ENGINE count flashes from engine light on dash its all on gt4oc site so youd be better checking yourself)

If the cars fine go for it £4.5k is a good price if it is good.

i think it should read Twin Entry Turbo... :P

but like Andrew said.. check the GT4OC to get the correct method for checking the car..

and £4.5k is a bargain..

After getting insurance qoutes with my wife on the policy this is a no go, £500 for me, £1200 for the two of us

Sometimes i am sure they just magically :hokus-pokus: create quotes out of thin air.

If anybody else is interested in the car let me know, but he will be looking for around £6000.

yup thats exactly what it says. I was a bit to eager to jump in and take it for a spin the 1st time looked under the hood.

Tell your wife that unless she has got the £600 difference she does not get to drive the car :D

Then you have to put up with her music choice in the cd player

Bit weird tho,

normally adding my wifes name on the policy drops the premium. For my modded Yaris TS it dropped by £60. This the 1st time its gone up with her name and an increase of £700 is crazy

Good news is, I will hopefuilly be an owner of an mk1 mr2 tommorow

160k on the clock on a P... £4k i reckon thats worth... 160K is alot of mileage! its no LS400 so i would beware!

i would also concentrate on those turbos... these go you will be look at prolly 1K a piece plus labour

Turbos do fail on high mileage cars so this area you should concentrate on carefully.
