They are bringing the Avensis to the US market as a Scion Sports coupe. It'll be powered with the same 2.4L engine that powers the basic Camry models, and will be fully loaded for around $19,000 (10,275.87 #'s).

They have more pics posted at Scion.com.

is it me or have they changed the nose, I think it's the radiator grill that looks different. I prefer this nose to the stadard avensis affair (The Avensis looks too much like a Passat/Vectra for my liking).

Either way, I'm sure with a 2.4ltr engine it will be miles better than my old lean-burn 1.8.

I've just had a look at the scion site.

What's all this about a 2 door version? and after a closer look, it's starting to look a bit like a BMW with those headlights.

And a 2.4ltr only producing 160bhp! Doesn't a 1.8ltr Celica have more power than this? hmm. Put a more powerful engine in and keep the nose and maybe I'll start liking the new avensis.

I don't think thats based on the Avensis at all really, the entire shape and even size is different, at the most I would say it's built on the same platform (like the Golf, Leon, Octavia) etc because the entire profile is too different. I would be more inclinded to say it's based on something like the IS200/300 as it looks more that sort of size.
